Summerfest is an opportunity for exchange of cultural ideas; in part by experiencing a U.S. university setting that provides a networking platform to engage like-minded fellow students. Aside from an active exchange of academic and cultural ideas during the program, the students this year have expanded cultural enrichment and understanding beyond the classroom and have made an extra effort to spend time together.
Recently, Nirma University students hosted an evening of home-cooked Gujarati dishes (sev tamatar, dal vada, aloo sabzi with roti) followed by Bollywood music and Garba dancing, a dance form which originated in the state of Gujarat in India. Yonsei University students reciprocated with home-cooked vegetarian Korean dishes (vegetarian kimbap and salad) while hanging out at USC Village.
We salute Summerfest 2019 students who have maximized this opportunity for cultural enrichment and expect that these connections will be lifelong personal and professional friendships. Kudos.
